About Our Programs
After experiencing abuse in school, family, and workplace environments, I was driven to create something meaningful and protective for others. That vision became clearer while volunteering in Brazil, where I witnessed firsthand the powerful impact of Jiu-Jitsu within vulnerable communities.
Jiu-Jitsu didn’t just inspire me—it changed me. It gave me a way to transform my trauma into fuel. Through training, I was able to rebuild my confidence, reshape my way of thinking, process difficult experiences, and overcome challenges that once felt overwhelming. What started as a way to protect myself became a path toward strength, resilience, and healing. Now, I’m committed to helping others experience that same transformation. Both of the programs below are built on that foundation—empowerment, safety, and growth through challenge. These programs are designed not only to teach self-defense, but to help individuals reconnect with their strength, trust themselves, and move through the world with greater confidence. Foster children are always welcome.

1) Women’s Self-Defense Community Programs
Launched in December 2024, this program runs 1–2 times per year and also partners with community organizations to support women in specialized group settings.
By donation. Community-funded. Accessible to all.
With rising crime rates across British Columbia, the need for practical self-defense and personal safety education is more important than ever. Our program is beginner-friendly and designed to meet women where they are—no experience necessary.
This is more than just learning how to fight. It’s about:
-
Building awareness of your surroundings
-
Developing practical, real-world self-defense skills
-
Strengthening mental preparedness
-
Reclaiming confidence and personal power
Participants gain not only physical techniques, but also a deeper sense of resilience and empowerment. Self-defense is a journey that requires consistent practice, and our community helps guide women on how and where to continue growing.
A unique feature: Moms are welcome to train alongside their children, creating a shared experience of strength and safety. I grew up with a single mom of 2, so I understand the challenge.
2) Shield Maiden: Armor Within (Youth Safety & Empowerment Program)
This program launched at Pitt Meadows Secondary School in February 2026, marking the beginning of a new, proactive approach to youth safety and empowerment aligned with the schools curriculum earning them their credits for graduation.Designed specifically for young people, this program focuses on building confidence, awareness, and emotional strength before they step into the real world—while making the learning process engaging and positive.
Participants learn:
-
How to recognize and respond to unsafe situations
-
How to use their voice with confidence
-
How to set and maintain personal boundaries
-
How to trust their instincts
Beyond self-defense, the program fosters:
-
Discipline and respect
-
Physical fitness and coordination
-
Emotional resilience and self-trust
